Elders_Lassey

How long have you attend FBC Holton? 16 years

What is your favorite book of the Bible and why? Matthew’s gospel. Reading it gives me assurance that God is in control, and I don’t have to worry.

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
Galatians 4:16 may not be my “favorite” Bible verse, but it’s probably the one I quote the most. Paul asks “Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?” This is a fantastic rhetorical question. Friends tell the truth. Enemies lie. They say the truth hurts. And we often prefer the lie. We’re fallen sinful humans who prefer the dark. But our growth depends on our being honest with each other and ourselves, and humbly accepting the truth, whatever it might be.

I love this verse because it emphasizes the fact that we are justified by faith in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus alone. When we trust Jesus we are set free from the bondage of sin and death. We are to stand firm in this truth and never add anything to the message of the Gospel of grace!

What is one blessing you have seen while serving in your role? As the “young” elder I have been tremendously blessed by being in the company of the other elders. They are all Godly men I tremendously look up to. They are role models, and their example of how serve our body of believers is a blessing to have.

If you could choose one person from the Bible to be, who would you choose and why? Goodness this is a hard question! All of my Biblical heroes suffered tremendously, and I like my comfortable life! I suppose I’d want to be one of the men with a burning passion for spreading the gospel and serving others no matter what. Men who could walk away from comfort and have zero desire to look back. 100% sold out for Christ. What a blessing it would be to have that kind of leading by the spirit!

What is something fun/unique about you that others may not know? Unique: Most folks know that I am a family doctor. What they might not know is that 8 years ago, I left the broken American 3rd-party-payor medical system, and started a Direct Primary Care practice. I have since become a leader in the DPC movement, and helped found a nationwide non-profit organization called the DPC Alliance. I’ve been on the board of directors for 6 years and served as the president in 2022 and 2023, leading the the organization past the 700 physician-member milestone. I go off the board in 2024 and really look forward to getting some free time back!

Fun: I play the banjo, but not very well. I like to build and fix things. I used to collect basketball shoes, still have a few pairs… I still play a little ball sometimes, but I’m getting old. I love to laugh and make others laugh. Laughter is my therapy, and truly is the best medicine.
