How To Change Seasons Well

While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease. (Genesis 8:22)

Seasons are God’s idea and somehow we can sense when they are coming and going.

Summer is wonderful, but when it’s time to end, you are ready.

And fall can’t come soon enough. Do you feel it?

We want to share some wisdom on changing seasons. It is said that the way you leave one season is how you enter the next.

Here are some Biblical principles to consider when moving into new seasons.

Look Forward, Not Back

Give the past seasons completely to Jesus. Whether it was wonderful or hard, the season you’re leaving can linger and affect the season you’re moving into. Step into the season God has put before you, and don’t look back (Luke 9:62). Paul was adamant about this way of living: “Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do; forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead. I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13).

Be Present, Christ-Focused

Chaos is a real thing, and it creeps in and begins to build until “suddenly” you find yourself in a whirlwind of life. Busy. Overwhelmed. Ready to escape to a new season, or at least to something that brings you momentary comfort. Instead, pay attention to the moments you want to escape – to your phone, to food, to the things that bring quick, temporary relief. Pause in those moments, invite Jesus into each noe, take a deep breath, and let His peace settle in. Then return to the present moment. Jesus is with you. (Matthew 28:20)

Abid In Him and Remain

Pausing in the moments of chaos and focusing on Jesus is not so easy as it seems on paper. There are so many scripts, so many learned behaviors for coping, so many ways we try to protect ourselves from anxiety – and from the deeper things that hide underneath. This season, practice abiding with Jesus. Just sit, listen, and be willing to hear Him, to follow Him. He may want to heal your heart in a deep place. He may just want to be with you and love you with no agenda. Abide in Him (John 15:4)

The fall season is about settling into gentler, slower rhythms, and allowing the God-ordained pace of change to draw you in.

Transition well. Leave behind the past season. Give it completely to Jesus. Stay present with Jesus, with family, with friends. Be with Jesus. Remain in Him.

Jesus want to meet you right where you are.
